Within the SESAR WP-E framework, the 4th edition of SESAR INNOVATION DAYS (SID) annual conference will be held in Madrid at the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM), on the premises of the Aeronautical engineering school, between 25th and 27th November 2014. HALA! Network- Toward Higher Levels of Automation in ATM, coordinated by the UPM, is supporting SESAR and EUROCONTROL in the organization and preparation of the conference.
The SID conference is sponsored by SESAR and EUROCONTROL within the SESAR Program, a technological and operational project funded by the European Commission to modernize the Air Traffic Management (ATM) in Europe. The conference which has so far been held in different European countries (France, Germany and Sweden), has been the main forum for the dissemination of the results of SESAR WP-E. This forum allows interaction between the ATM community, ATM research groups and industry representatives. Unlike other scientific events on ATM research, SESAR Innovation Days (SID) explicitly focuses on long-term research and innovation.
Previous editions of the SESAR Innovation Days (Toulouse in 2011, Braunschweig in 2012 and Stockholm in 2013) have attracted up to 200 participants from different sectors of European aviation research, development and industry. We are expecting to welcome a similar number of participants to the upcoming edition of the SIDs to be held this year in Madrid.
The SESAR Innovation Days will include sessions and presentations by SESAR WP-E Research Networks (Long term innovation) participants, including HALA! Network and Complex World. In addition to the presentation of the results of the networks, presentations of projects and PhD studies funded by WP-E will be made. This event also seeks contributions from the Aviation community as a whole on ATM Research through an open call for the submission of scientific articles. The submission deadline is 22nd September and notification of acceptance will be made by 23rd October. Parallel exhibition sessions are scheduled to take place alongside the normal paper presentation sessions so that companies and institutions which are interested in setting up ATM subject related exhibitions or demonstrations can do so.
During the SID conference, HALA! Network will deliver a presentation on “Progress on Automation on ATM” where it will present the outcome of HALA!’s research on the field and its vision regarding the role of automation within ATM, the challenges of automation applied to ATM as well as future areas of research in the field.
